Holidays. Eddi was bored. All her mates where off with their parents, travelling, seeing new worlds. Then again, she does not want to miss them. The last day in school before the holidays they had an excursion. At the station Eddi dared to tell that her father was the one who has built the huge display cases in the building. Big laughter. Mockery. Not her. Not the one whose Mum cleans the class rooms. Some are nice. Margeret. She invited her to her home. They talked, deeply, about friendship. Then Astrid claimed to be Margeret's only friend. Anyway. Eddi put the ladder against the hatch that has lead to the attic, her favorite place when she has had peace and leisure to do what ever she wanted. The smell, dry, dusty. something green got her attention. DAS KASLTE HERZ. How exciting! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But, oh man, how much letters, and so small. Eddi was used to shorter stories. She loved The Famous Five in particular, light hearted stories about children privileged in society and well looked after. But this? Then she started reading and quickly forgot about any difficulties in reading it. She immediately was a little charburner looking for his spot in life, but not just reading about him...</div>

When browsing the ds106 page, which I do sometimes, I was surprised, that this year's UMW ds106 course is about folklore, myth, legend. For one of the<a href="http://blog.raptnrent.me/2018/08/23/week-one-bootcamp-3/" target="_blank"> first week assignments Paul Bond</a> asks his students to reflect on this theme and I too was very attracted by the idea of doing this. Thus the post.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFO7c_a7YDUIqaMQ_SikpJxHbYrNoTBL7oaCv8qGHFMrBPRXUEZWzxfGCisfuvSB02I3HrWTrrTC8h6rFMYJfkZOkBePG9DZz0F8gzQPSkEqrZ57H_NcJERNkle_mZIHuRmLiI8nc7wfUUThEDUuEljIsIZ1nwe27x3OFRPkUiuQT0rrR9H-ao6J8VBw/s259/EichGoodForNothing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="259" data-original-width="194" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFO7c_a7YDUIqaMQ_SikpJxHbYrNoTBL7oaCv8qGHFMrBPRXUEZWzxfGCisfuvSB02I3HrWTrrTC8h6rFMYJfkZOkBePG9DZz0F8gzQPSkEqrZ57H_NcJERNkle_mZIHuRmLiI8nc7wfUUThEDUuEljIsIZ1nwe27x3OFRPkUiuQT0rrR9H-ao6J8VBw/w300-h400/EichGoodForNothing.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Many of my favorite stories have their roots in folklore, myth and fairy tales. Here I am greatly attracted by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanticism" target="_blank">European Romanticism</a>, where many writers got back to the magical and unseen, but rather than meaning the past, have related to topics of their present time and moral. Although I like the Story of the "Life of a Good-for-Nothing" by <a href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_von_Eichendorff" target="_blank">J. Eichendorf</a> most, which is not really taken as a fairy tale, I want to write about <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_Stone_(German_fairy_tale)" target="_blank">"Heart of Stone" by Wilhelm Hauff </a>which is definitely meant to be a fairy tale. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am not sure what are the academic criteria that the one is a fairy tale and the other is not, but the Good-for-Nothing feels more like a person travelling through reality, whereas Heart of Stone goes deep into worlds that never have been seen. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Also the moral of the Good-for-Nothing story is extremely modern and is meant to tell people that the Good-for-nothing is the one who lives the valuable life, because he dares to live instead of burying life under reason. Then again Hauff's Heart of Stone does not really touch any widespread ideas of a valuable life, but gives advice to not miss such a one.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What I am interested in is to have a closer look on how these stories, and Heart of Stone in particular, have influenced my ideas of leading a valuable life and if I should proceed going after a very romantic view on life, or if it might be a bigger adventure to try out different values, maybe from newer stories that can help me proceeding <i>my</i> travels through time.<br />
<br />
Heart of Stone tells the story of a young man, who is poor, but has the chance to speak out wishes to a nature spirit. The wishes immediately become true. He enjoys becoming rich and popular, but for him this was not enough and he gives his heart away to a man who lives deep in the forest in order to get even more riches and a terrific wife. Still, without the warmth of a heart the young man was not able to make her happy. One day she died. With the help of the nature spirit the young man realizes what really makes happy and he got the chance to turn back time to now making the right decisions, which is to accept that being poor is no reason to be unhappy.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/grimmbilder/images/0/0f/Fischer_und_seine_frau_felicitas_kuhn.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/463?cb=20130515140514&path-prefix=de" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="463" height="320" src="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/grimmbilder/images/0/0f/Fischer_und_seine_frau_felicitas_kuhn.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/463?cb=20130515140514&path-prefix=de" width="308" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">from Bildzitat, Felicitas Kuhn</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A topic very often taken by fairy tales, in great variety. Two of them are the <a href="https://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm019.html" target="_blank">Fisherman and his Wife</a>, where a magic fish fulfills wishes that lead to riches and back to happiness in a simple life. A completely other light on the topic throws the fairy tale <a href="https://books.google.de/books?id=P8DkCQAAQBAJ&pg=PT32&lpg=PT32&dq=zinnsoldat+fairy+tale+auf+englisch&source=bl&ots=xGgWcENI2i&sig=QqqrwX_bSFaUfJtxN2mqEKfzCfw&hl=de&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiv6tC29JzdAhXOsaQKHbweAHQQ6AEwEnoECAEQAQ#v=onepage&q=zinnsoldat%20fairy%20tale%20auf%20englisch&f=false" target="_blank">The Steadfast Soldier</a>, where a poor soldier violently came to riches and a princess wife and with her lives happily ever after. I remember that this story puts me into a big conflict, because I am more the person who thinks being rich might in most cases being bad. Is it like that?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.baerenboutique.de/images/zinnsoldat.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="478" height="320" src="https://www.baerenboutique.de/images/zinnsoldat.jpg" width="239" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">from www.baerenboutique.de</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
In addition to my conviction that a person only can be a good person if it is a poor person, I do not know any fairy tales or romantic stories, where a woman was the initiative part concerning riches. The romantic woman sits and waits that a man comes along and takes care of her.<br />
<br />
Fortunately my passion for romance does not go that far, at least not these days.<br />
<br />
What I want to say is, apart from education and influences by the values from your surrounding folklore and fairy tales have a great influence on how someone sets up their life, although there are a great pool of stories you can choose from and if you can not find any that fits into your ideas about life you can write new stories - but choose wisely - as if any story is a wish that can influence your life greatly.<br />
<br />
... A restless night. Again and again Eddi woke up, thinking, if she wants to go into adventures caused by strong but doubtful decision or rather do as all the words, written and spoken, say.<br />
How is it to give away your heart for a while? How is it to meet a nature spirit deep in the forest? How is it when you have power over someone? How is it??? Is it like in the stories?<br />
<br />
You will only know if you try...<br />

The post tells you about John and Sarah Connor and the Terminator himself of Terminator 2 and how they relate to the theme of the movie "No fate but what we make for ourselves.". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sarah Connor knows about the future and that her son John will be a leading resistance fighter. When she prepares John for this role throughout his childhood she shows that she does not believe in fate but only in what she can make.She might think that John can not mind being a resistance fighter, but she is certain that she can prepare him to be one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the other hand she does not live up to this aspiration when she mostly succumbs to her anger instead of using her brainpower. This way she would have been able to get free from her prison earlier to help her son survive. Giving in to her anger so often makes it her fate to be a captive. Is it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
John like most teenagers tries to create his world which is definitely suiting the theme of you make your fate yourself. He also follows his good heart and is courageous which are qualities that might create a better world, although he also loves playing video games and even steals money for this purpose. Nonetheless he brightly creates a world teenagers love to live in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The good Terminator - T-800 (Model 101) might not have any fate, because he is a machine and it is difficult to say if he creates what will happen. He only does because of his program. Then again the program is made by humans and the future John has set him up to protect the child he was. This way the Terminator is an extension of humanity and in particular of John. Finally he lives up to the theme of creating the future and not to give in in a supposed fate. Then again his fate is to be destroyed. He has no ability to mind this, although he seems to decide himself that he must be shacked to save John's world.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the following I will comment four pictures concerning the theme of making your world.
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/gp/stefaniejeske/6s4gQ5" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" title="Untitled-2"><img alt="Untitled-2" height="347" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3690/33122861425_7c29007cb6.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sarah is captured in a hospital bed after, again, trying to fight her guards. Sarah's temper seems to be fate. It is the only thing she does not seriously fight and the only thing that keeps her away from managing her future in a more efficient way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="text-align: left;">Sarah has gained a clip and unlocked the bonds wildly ripping them off from her body. This very well illustrates how sarah is capable of creating her future. Only the worries her son could be killed without her help made her using her intellect more than her anger.</span>
<br />
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/gp/stefaniejeske/KU403F" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Boys playing with guns."><br /></a><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/gp/stefaniejeske/KU403F" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Boys playing with guns."><img alt="Boys playing with guns." height="261" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2837/32307718173_d232bb87a6.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two boys are playing with guns and the good Terminator comments it by assuming that humanity also means to destroy themselves. This picture states that you can do nothing about the nature of hmanity which is very near to just give in to fate, but ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/gp/stefaniejeske/bj9dFM" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Put the gun down, now!"><img alt="Put the gun down, now!" height="222" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3804/32307713413_bc6eca4790.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
... in contrast to the small children John has developed the moral that it is not a good thing to kill people or use guns. He orders the terminator to stop shooting people. (One of the responses of the Terminator to this issue was: "of course I kill people. I am a Terminator.". Again fate seems close to inherent conditions.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To sum it up, the movie greatly plays with the theme, where John mostly lives up to it, Sarah behaves somehow contradictory and the Terminator (the good one) raises questions on how a machine is related to fate. We all know about the problem machines might cause when they achieve independence. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally the movie also prompts the question if fate is caused by an (unconscious) propensity like death instincts.</div>

Call me
Nomi, good?! I got a strange ring about half a year ago, you know? It was about
my friend’s paintings. Call her my friend! We met at school in the evening for
many years, but never get to know that well. She did not like my sniper hobby,
I guess, but than that ring<br />

she had to organize an exhibition of her paintings. You might think this can’t

paintings behind and Che did not want having the paintings around. That was it.
He thinks himself being helpful now. I should mention my friend did not tell
the truth when she told me Che has abducted her. I wasn’t able to find out who
did, she won’t tell me more, I am sure, why ever, <a href="https://www.iaml.com/blog/flsa-morale-nightmare-dealing-new-non-exempt" target="_blank">but she seems to live in akind of nightmare</a>, unless the paintings are destroyed. See you for the time being.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Believe it or not I do not tell the untruth. It was about winter 2006 when I got unemployed. I knew I just must do something to get out of my mind that I am one of THEM. It was also about the time the government decided to ament the payout date of unemployment assistance from end of the month to the beginning of the month. Have it that meant double payment for one month. I thought I am going crazy when I took a catalogue for painting materials and ordered 12 big canvases, some huge bottles of different oils and thinner, the biggest bags of pigment I could find, although the lady on the phone recommended smaller bags. I was so excited when the materials were delivered soon.
I loved the Harry Potter movies at that time and I was determined to make 12 paintings about them. One of them was a portrait painting from Snape. You know, the strange, bat like professor of potions and dark magic. When I started painting the portrait all seemed to be fine, except that I found it extremely sexy to watch this withdrawn looking guy. I enjoyed observing him, while he resembled a person banned by looking at something … someone?
Watch yourself !<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/32343255790/in/dateposted-public/" title="Snape"><img alt="Snape" height="431" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/701/32343255790_e7d110b0c4.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Is the ‘someome’ me? I immediately rejected this freaky … scary? Idea. IF I HAD NOT! Still full of life I went ahead painting, sometimes dropping away while sitting on my chair overserving my progression, until a day… it was a weird feeling, because I looked at the chair I have just fallen asleep on, me gone, but only a painting of an eye … my eye, I understand.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/23510899906/in/dateposted-public/" title="I am still watching you ;)"><img alt="I am still watching you ;)" height="371" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5631/23510899906_25cab7f702.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I have never left the place I now have to live in, which I am certain is Snape’s eye.<br />
<br />

<br />
I shot five pictures of a tennis ball and created with these a Gif in Photoshop. I copied an <a href="http://www.iemoji.com/view/emoji/383/objects/tennis-racquet-and-ball" target="_blank">emoji tennis ball from an internet page</a> and replaced the ball from one of the photos with it.<br />
<br />
I like the idea that emojis can become real like my tennis ball emoji. And who knows, because it is an emoji ball it may be now a living thing that can breath and feel and eat. Just an idea.<br />

This is exactly what the tutorial is about.<br />
<br />
I will create this kind of remix and by that telling you about the foundations of <a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">Audacity</a> which is a sound editing software and which you can download for free. But first listen to the example.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe frameborder="no" height="300" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/153230451&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="80%"></iframe>
</div>
<br />
<br />
I have used a <a href="http://freedigitalartcourse.blogspot.com/2014/04/music-production-and-sharing.html" target="_blank">song I created for a different tutorial</a> and I will record me saying one of the many <a href="http://elisakreisinger.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/what-is-a-remix-exactly/" target="_blank">definitions on <i>remix</i></a>.<br />
<br />
The following 8 but short tutorial videos will tell you about all. Just before watching them <a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">download and install Audacity</a>. Note that I am a PC user, Shortcuts I mention may be different with a Mac.<br />

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe frameborder="no" height="300" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/147193309&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=true" width="70%"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
<br />
I used <a href="http://soundation.com/studio" target="_blank">Soundation</a> to create a beat and exportet this as a .wav to my computer. After this I loaded the file into <a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">Audacity</a>. In Audacity I recorded my voice saying 'One, two, Wow.' I did not choose the words for any meaning, but because I felt it right for my chosen beat.<br />

<br />
The first video shows you how to <strong>find</strong> the <strong>download page</strong> from a great <strong>free sound editing software</strong> called <strong>Audacity</strong>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/GFzHL8Va5aY?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
The next video shows you how to<strong> produce</strong> a<strong> beat with</strong> the free online software <strong>Soundation</strong>. When have created the beat it is opened in <strong>Audacity where a voice track is recorded</strong>. (You could record in Soundation, but not in the free version.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/b9e1_C23e5E/0.jpg"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/b9e1_C23e5E?version=3&f=user_uploads&c=google-webdrive-0&app=youtube_gdata" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/v/b9e1_C23e5E?version=3&f=user_uploads&c=google-webdrive-0&app=youtube_gdata" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The third video is about <strong>sharing</strong> a <strong>Soudcloud</strong> track <strong>on</strong> a <strong>Tumblr</strong> blog. <br />
<br />
<br />

It was about a fair haired little girl who was adopted by white South Africans who admired the Nazi regime. Some day they had to face that the little girl is Jewish, which caused that their behaviour turned against the girl. She from now on looked for friendship and support with the black people around. <br />
<br />
However, this intro scene is not about this book, but about a story I have thought out myself, inspired by the book and people I know from Africa. The heroine of the story is a white girl growing up in a small village in Ghana. <br />
<br />
You can see the hands of an adult woman starting to tell her story.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Get
an idea and start planning! </b>
</div>
<br />
First
for any artwork production is the idea. You might already have one.
If not you might know about various brain storming techniques.
However, even then you need a start.
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This
can be a question, for example:
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I
want to show my artist friends something really awesome. What would
impress them?
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Often
we got ideas from assignments a school provides.
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>You
may follow the idea I provide here, which is to juxtapose the visual
(photograph) to the audible (narration) in a video and to share this
in the Internet.</b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Please
note, this is not just about creating a video. You need this steps
for any kind of artwork, although the term <i>pre-production</i> is
normally used for the video production process.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>When
you got your idea, write it down.</b> One sentence may be enough.
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<em>I
want to make a photograph of white hands on a dark background and add
the narration “I am Hanna from Ghana”.</em>
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Say
something about the meaning you want to convey.</b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><em><span style="font-size: small;">I
want people wondering about the juxtaposition of the visual and the
audible to make them think about their ideas from skin color and
origin of a person.</span></em>
</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">(you
may choose any other picture like the mouth of a bearded man sounding
like a child and saying: I am Hans from a Grimm fairy tale. Or you
show the back of a woman's head with braided hair saying in a man's
voice “I am Jimmy from Pimp Town.” - Sorry for this, but art
sometimes must be provocative to make people think.)</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
After
this <b>for visual ideas you should do any kind of sketch</b>. For a
video you might create a story board. For our purpose you can use any
form you like. Look at my one frame story board.<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn5UNoA6Q1URNkBxRHWFMS_VL1rphyPb803uL-MdSEuIu3hZOM2mO3eZK6-HYy_aaylhwj1vKtPavM9eZ_vl8Xczwhe-SpeZeNFjfyZ_J7667ZJtM0chEpGIrLtWQsqu2glkH8FiA34fR9/s1600/HannaFromGhana.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn5UNoA6Q1URNkBxRHWFMS_VL1rphyPb803uL-MdSEuIu3hZOM2mO3eZK6-HYy_aaylhwj1vKtPavM9eZ_vl8Xczwhe-SpeZeNFjfyZ_J7667ZJtM0chEpGIrLtWQsqu2glkH8FiA34fR9/s1600/HannaFromGhana.png" height="400" width="278" /></a></div>
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
You
can do something similar for music and sound, like a time line or
musical notation.
</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now
you have to explore what you need for your production. Compare it to
what you have. Write it down. If you do not have what you need write
down an alternative.</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">
</span><span style="font-size: large;"></span><span style="font-size: large;">
</span><span style="font-size: large;">
</span><span style="font-size: large;">

The

Still, music video is more associated with Rock, Pop and other music associated with watching cool and crazy people. I, however intended to visualize how color is mixed from 3 primary colors and this video has turned out to be really cool.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/48Byz1j-3ig?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Since I have a passion for mixing colors from just three primary colors, I was delighted when I found a <a href="http://youtu.be/yu44JRTIxSQ" target="_blank"> Sesame Street video</a> about this, which was spring '13 when I first tried video together with ds106. However I did not manage realizing my ideas about a music video I wanted to create from the song in spring. I still had to learn a lot about shooting (light) and video editing. Now, more than half a year later I tried. <br />
It was fun but not easy. The day was cloudy and I had to add light, which again made the colors too yellowish especially the blue and purple. I was able to correct this with adobe premiere elements via an effect called 3-way-color-corrector.<br />
Look here for the effect:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
before</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By the way, you certainly know that<a href="http://stefaniejeske.blogspot.com/2013/05/just-three-colors-for-any-hue-or-yellow.html" target="_blank"> light colors mixes differently from paint</a>.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQGGkaX7jwKpjVYmdBovhbpC-LLjIJQLu1TQTV5X9JtiqSWVZNShEDx4iQ7HT-76ugZ0Sgj83p5jFbSF7Q32A1N2XReEmNVldos0qaX_NSL7ZZ4hjm-XRv5RjBjOAhOTFpGa_V1qiE2Jje/s1600/Screenshot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQGGkaX7jwKpjVYmdBovhbpC-LLjIJQLu1TQTV5X9JtiqSWVZNShEDx4iQ7HT-76ugZ0Sgj83p5jFbSF7Q32A1N2XReEmNVldos0qaX_NSL7ZZ4hjm-XRv5RjBjOAhOTFpGa_V1qiE2Jje/s1600/Screenshot.png" height="381" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see the clips a various. The reason is I had to interrupt the recording whenever I had to arrange the windmills or little glasses with color. You also can see that I sometimes have changed the opacity of a clip to achieve effects like crossfades. This, for example, helped creating the illusion that the colors of the little windmills are mixing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>

<br />
This is something many people already have done in one or another way, animating an origami crane. Then again this exactly may be the reason I also wanted to do it.<br />
<br />
I once wrote a story about a woman who meets a Japanese man and this was about a crane, too. I've lost the story and now had to rewrite it to have it in a written form. However, I can tell that it was about shifting to a parallel world from watching paper cranes moved by a breath of wind to watching real cranes flying. For my stop motion animation I do not shift away, but let a paper crane fly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='427' height='388' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/CBnRn7-96Os?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
The video is made out of photographs I took while folding the crane. After I've finished a step I put the work on a background and took an image of it. My camera was fitted on a tripod with the possibility to place it right over a table, like a reproduction stand.<br />
<br />
For the flying crane I used a thread and let the crane appear in front of the now 'standing' background, where I took the images of the crane. I needed three with different positions of the wings. This was not as easy as I would have wished it, but it worked well enough. <br />
<br />
The three images of the flying crane I combined in Photoshop to an animation and exported the frames as single images.<br />
<br />
In Premiere Elements I loaded all my image material and put it on the timeline. I added a title and exported all as a video.<br />
<br />
For the future I intend to learn about tweens in Photoshop, which can help me to make the motion smoother. This time I was happy to get along so well and got what I imagined for this project.<br />

<br />
The piece of music I found under the menu item Music of my Premiere Elements. It is called Pavane.<br />

<br />
This is possible with a record of you singing the canon once. Afterwards you have to listen to yourself and to start the next recording when the next voice comes in. <br />
It is possible to cheat by recording the canon only once and copying it, but this is no fun and you may have difficulties to synchronise the parts.<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe frameborder="no" height="166" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/116181065" width="100%"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
For my recording I've chosen a canon which looks easy but is tricky, still, it has the nice effect to really achieve a multi-layered sound of voices.<br />
The piece is in German, but below the notes I present a translation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It takes little to be happy<br />
And whoever is happy is a king.</div>

<div class="song_for_song_page" style="text-align: left;">
While recording headphones should be used. Otherwise the sound which comes from the speakers is also recorded. This usually interferes with the quality of the recording.</div>
<br />
A possible course is:<br />
- plug in microphone and headphones<br />
- start software<br />
- start the recording of the canon according to your software's ways<br />
- go back to the start of your recording<br />
- add/ go to new track (if necessary; in Audacity a new track is automatically added) <br />
and hit record<br />
- start singing when the next part comes in<br />
You can repeat this.<br />
<br />
When I was a child and during my time at university I always was part of a choir and the above round is often sung in German choirs. For me this is a world far in the past. I still love listening to a polyphony if voices but can hardly imagine being in a choir with all the pink ideal world people around me. Still, the music they are producing is nice.<br />
<br />
<br />
This post is inspired by the <a href="http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/row-row-polyphony/" target="_blank">ds106 assignment idea Row Row Polyphony</a>.<br />

<br />
A daily create I wish I had done, but still did not. I embed one example, yet, there are <a href="http://sit%20for%20a%20few%20minutes%20in%20a%20quiet%20space.%20write%20about%20what%20you%20hear/" target="_blank">many more beautiful contributions.</a><br />

On a hillwalk, I pause to listen, I do not sit down the grass is wet. At first all I hear is the wind, my breathing and heart thumping, my breathing and heart calm. The wind is blowing, quite hard, in my ears, across the opening, through the reeds and grass nearby, over the hills on the other side the reservoir below. Down the glen a buzzard mews. My eyes close and I hear more, a lorry 3km away on the Loch Lomond road, the outlet from the reservoir.
<br />
<br />
I feel reminded on one of Johns pictures he uploaded on flickr.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The first dailycreate I managed since my last log was: <a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc632/" target="_blank">Draw a map that shows alternate paths from here to there.</a> I remember I was late, still, better late than never.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/10099168373/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ways through a winter forest. von StefanieSophie bei Flickr"><img alt="Ways through a winter forest." src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3735/10099168373_c722b4f4a3_n.jpg" height="320" width="316"></a></div>
<br />
Here I took Chinese ink and a frost blue water color. I let them flow across the paper and also drew with a brush over it.<br />
<br />
Next there was the idea to shoot a video concerning food and Karen Young impressed me by telling me how I can avoid crying when chopping onions.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/BOGeBwUsbqg" width="420"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
<br />
I also was surprised by a tweet, Rochelle sent me for her animation of a birthday cake, which she prepared for her happy 51st birthday.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck">

— Rochelle Lockridge (@Rockylou22) <a href="https://twitter.com/Rockylou22/statuses/387756201615691776">October 9, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
The next surprise caught me when I saw that a dailycreate was postet which was created by me. <br />
"Cry, die, then fly … take a picture that expresses emerging from a crisis." <br />
You can read about it in <a href="http://stefaniejeskestory.blogspot.com/2013/09/dailycreate-log-september-28th-2013.html" target="_blank">my last dailycreate log</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/10099199943/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="What a beautiful morning. von StefanieSophie bei Flickr"><img alt="What a beautiful morning." src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7324/10099199943_b939107a52.jpg" height="285" width="500"></a></div>
<br />
I took photographs of a film on my screen and combined them with the help on a photo editing software by arranging them and using layer modes. Finally I desaturated the picture.<br />
<br />
Maybe Christen Bouffard used a technique similar to the above example to create the following picture where a dailycreate advised her to combine two visual patterns. <br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/2farnorth/10164572255/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="early von i2farnorth bei Flickr"><img alt="early" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2807/10164572255_32aa85d169_n.jpg" height="240" width="320"></a></div>
<br />
Viewing <a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc639/" target="_blank">the examples</a> I sensed that the terms visual patters was differently interpreted. Some strictly used what the common sense says is a pattern, others saw a pattern in pictures about something.<br />
<br />
Then Alan Levine was blessed with a cute idea <br />
"I’m in Alaska! Draw me an abstract image a bear or a moose!!<br />
and I wasn't able to resist, I had to draw.<br />
<br />
Guilia kindly gave the being a name. <br />
<br />
<div class="comment-body" id="yui_3_11_0_3_1381670940709_1032" style="text-align: center;">
"That's pretty adorable! This might be the next big holiday gift all the kids are begging for. The AlaMooskaBear."</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/10173771753/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="AlaMooskaBear in Snowy Landscape von StefanieSophie bei Flickr"><img alt="AlaMooskaBear in Snowy Landscape" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3728/10173771753_3bd0616e5f_n.jpg" height="320" width="317"></a></div>
Shortly afterwards I even came to a photograph of the AlaMooskaBear.<br />
<i><br /></i>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<i>Here it was supposed to see a bear of the AlaMooskaBear. He has run away</i> <span style="font-family: "Arial Unicode MS", "Times New Roman", Times, serif; text-align: -webkit-center;"><span style="font-size: large;">☹</span></span><br />
<br />
Finally, just today I saw this awesame video by Chris concerning the dailycreate <br />
<a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc642/" target="_blank">"Make a lip-dub video to a song about radio."</a><br />

Kevin Hodgson visually has shown this for some time, in the style of <a href="http://blog.masslive.com/nie/2008/09/kevin_hdgson_boolean_squared.html" target="_blank">one of his awesome web comics</a>.<br />

When I had to make a decision concerning a commercial for the <a href="http://ds106.us/2013/09/22/headless-group-radio-show-specs/" target="_blank">ds106 radio project of fall 13</a>, I took the text of Kevin's little comic and spoke the words into a microphone. <br />

<br />
<br />
After this I opened an audio editing software and in a second track added a <a href="http://freesound.org/people/striptheband/sounds/52037/" target="_blank">groovy sound I've found on freesound.org</a>. <br />
I also tried out some effects like echo and modulation to achieve a richer sound.<br />
<br />
The logo for the soundcloud file I've created as my version for a logo for our group, which was anyone supposed to do.<br />

Compare to the <a href="http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/2010/04/9-movie-review/9-movie-poster-9/" target="_blank">original movie poster</a>.<br />

<br />
<br />
This week is about design, and often about font, but when I chose the poster of the 9 movie to make a poster for a ds106 movie I was left to editing possibilities without using any font.<br />
<br />
I copied the original and rotated the layer by 180 °. This way I got a 6. Then I selected the 6, cut it and put it on a new layer. <br />
<br />
In the original I used the copy tool to 'paint' some of the background over the 9 . The same I did with the little nine at the bottom right.<br />
I combined the six with the background via one of the blending modes. I tried them out until it looked good.<br />
<br />
Finally I used the text tool to write DS10 near to the 6. I flattened the image and made the DS10 edges softer and floating with the mixing brush tool.<br />
<br />
I thought about if I had any associations for the reason why I've chosen this particular poster. I definitely did not allude to the 9 movie. I think I liked the idea of a slight irony already implicit in the original poster. Naturally ds106 is important to many people including me, but we may not expect ds106 has to save us. <br />
A further reason is that I find the poster a good design and I've enjoyed exploring it deeper by changing its design.<br />

This made me thought, for it is not necessarily a nice metaphor. Finally I knew what my link was here: Creativity!<br />
<br />
According to my understanding of the skull metaphor I created a stamp. The idea I got from the ds106 assignmnent "<a href="http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/ds106-goes-postal/" target="_blank">ds106 Goes Postal</a>", where you are supposed to create a stamp to honor ds106.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/10047925824/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="#deathlyCreative von StefanieSophie bei Flickr"><img alt="#deathlyCreative" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5488/10047925824_50f32f3b61.jpg" height="500" width="349" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I took pictures from a <a href="http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2012/07/17/leonardo-da-vinci-anatomist/" target="_blank">website about Leonardo da Vinci</a> and his anatomy drawings. I was fascinated from the asymmetry of the skull, which is again deathly creative. Look around, you will find a lot of skull drawings all very symmetric. Leonardo dares to draw a skull different.<br />
<br />
However, I arranged the skull and the bones in my photo editing software and added the ds106 letters on the skull's forehead (like a postmark). The letters you can find on the ds106.us page. <br />
<br />
Finally I wrote "#deatlyCreative" where normally the price of the stamp is to be found.<br />
<br />
For the 'stamp edge' I took a picture of a stamp and selected the edge of the picture. I used this selection to cut out the edges of my picture.<br />
<br />
So this is the way I would honor ds106 with a stamp.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/photo-it-like-peanut-butter/" target="_blank">Photo It Like Peanut Butter.</a> is the assignment idea, that made me create the Gif.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN2DbXDGPWfJkyNxp8wAu_DywWlbD4r9jXeMxWzW51J11abyxFwn26H9ivZqlB0qs_7fWvmyFC7r1qMCaQriIyuXiMgGJzrYggDnzjHpPc86Ymm5F8qIZo0DRbdWVriHOioTno0xuQ5tkS/s1600/CranePeanut.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN2DbXDGPWfJkyNxp8wAu_DywWlbD4r9jXeMxWzW51J11abyxFwn26H9ivZqlB0qs_7fWvmyFC7r1qMCaQriIyuXiMgGJzrYggDnzjHpPc86Ymm5F8qIZo0DRbdWVriHOioTno0xuQ5tkS/s400/CranePeanut.gif" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am fascinated by this simple movement, which is, because of the motion blur, rather something geometrical moving than a recognizable thing, what makes it very abstract.<br />
<br />
I positioned my camera and touched the crane and when its movement has slowed down, took three pictures shortly one after the other. I loaded the three pictures into Photoshop as three different layers by using the place option. In Photoshop's timeline I added that any picture shall be displayed for half a second. Then I saved the Gif via the "Save for Web" option.<br />

I can tell you now.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/is-that-a-ghost/" target="_blank">Is that a… GHOST?!</a> you can read that you either need to use a long exposure or combine two photos in a photo editing software. I did not need any of this but my camera presents an option where I can use multiple exposure.<br />
<br />
First I freed my metronome from its lock and while it tick-tocked I took a photo. I left it like this but put my hand to the left of the metronome, shot, put my hand to the right, shot, and the camera made one photograph out of it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefaniejeske/9981214423/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ghost Hands & Metronome von StefanieSophie bei Flickr"><img alt="Ghost Hands & Metronome" height="331" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7387/9981214423_70c500653c.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For me this performs trying to influence time, not very successful at all. Time goes on and on and on ...
<br />
<br />
For this photo I feel very influenced by a video I found with the week 5 headless course instructions, <a href="http://vimeo.com/73824631" target="_blank">where Jason Eskenazi describes how he makes good photos</a>. He talks about rhythm in pictures and as an example he shows a photo with different men doing some exercise. I felt reminded on photos that are combined from different shots of the same person, but this is what makes the great photographer. He doesn't need this 'trick', he waits until the right shot is to make.<br />

The peaceful concentration on dailycreates is past, there are many more creations to do, I managed three in 14 days, it is rewarding, still.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc617/" target="_blank">Much is spoken about philosophy</a>, I did my share by telling about one of my favourite novels.<br />
<br />
<iframe frameborder="no" height="166" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F110751127" width="100%"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Already a week later, and by this late, I had the possibility to add to the dailycreate repository by doing a dailycreate, which I found an awesome idea.<br />
<a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc625/" target="_blank">dailycreate tdc625</a>: Create a new ds106 Challenge by Remixing a Previous One.<br />
<br />
I took a random dailycreate, which I got by clicking the provided link. <br />
Live, laugh, and love… take a picture that expresses good times.<br />
After this I thought the really opposite would be to take a photo about sadness, but rather decided a photo of emerging from sadness would be more challanging.<br />
<br />
<div style="border: 1px solid rgb(150, 150, 150);">

<br />
<span id="goog_1194728439"></span>Original assignment idea:<span id="goog_1194728440"></span><br />
<strong>Live, laugh, and love… take a picture that expresses good times.</strong><br />

<br />
Newly submitted assignment idea:<br />
<strong>Cry, die, then fly … take a picture that expresses emerging from a crisis.</strong><br />
</blockquote>
</div>
<br />
<br />
Then I dared something I've always wanted to do, a time lapse video, which is pictures taken over a long time combined to a video. I chose to make bubbles and shot how they are vanishing in time and finally becoming soapy water again.<br />
Look here for tdc626: <a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc626/" target="_blank">Make a time lapse video that shows a transformation.</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jDvYi_zJ6VY" width="420"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
<br />
How different was Cris' choice. First the color which is red and the highest temperature contrasted to my blue and then observing the merry behaviour of a human being instead of an inanimate appearance like bubbles, though both are enjoyable.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Agiwd_0D_6Y" width="420"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
<br />
Finally I was surprised by me liking one of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/trendingteacher/" target="_blank">Ary's pictures</a>, who I still know little, but I think we have something in common when choosing motives.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I would have liked to embed at least one video of the <a href="http://tdc.ds106.us/tdc622/" target="_blank">Create an I am ds106 / We are ds106 video clip</a> dailycreate. I was not able to make a decision, for the contributions are all very awesome. Do not miss watching them, they are good and for those who never have time, they are short.<br />
